WORKSHOP FACILITATION

Welcome to the dynamic world of workshops, where hands-on exploration and deep engagement take center stage. Designed for those ready to roll up their sleeves and dig deeper, these immersive sessions typically span from 75 minutes to 3 hours, offering ample time to unpack complex topics and foster meaningful connections. Unlike traditional lectures, GC workshops are highly interactive, providing a safe and supportive space for participants to share insights, ask questions, and collaborate with peers. Through a blend of interactive exercises, group discussions, and practical applications, participants embark on a journey of discovery, leaving with actionable strategies and newfound perspectives to apply in their personal and professional lives.

While Goodenough Consulting workshops can be booked as a stand-alone session, we highly encourage organizations to commit to ongoing learning by investing in a series of workshops.

SOME OF OUR MOST POPULAR WORKSHOPS INCLUDE:

The Macro Effect of Microaggressions

A more contemporary form of bias, and often subtle and well-intentioned, microaggressions are like 10,000 little cuts: they might seem small, but they are many, and they still cut deep. Join this conversation to explore these every day, commonplace exchanges and environmental symbols (as they relate to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability and other identities), and the negative impact microaggressions can have on the target person or group. Participants will discuss how micro-aggressions manifest in our daily lives, in workplaces, and within the larger society. Collectively, we’ll practice noticing, disrupting, and responding to microaggressions in an effort to foster belonging and mattering so all members of our organizations can thrive.

The Great Responsibility of Cultural Humility

Developing cultural competence is an important step for diversity awareness and cross-cultural communication. However, if we desire more authentic relationships across differences, we must establish trust in order to deepen connections and improve outcomes for all. Therefore, a paradigm shift toward cultural humility can help honor diverse experiences through an intentional recognition of our location at the crossroads of who we are, how others see us, and where power positions us within social systems. In the bigger picture, cultural humility is a framework that can radically transform organizations in their quest toward inclusion, equity, and true belonging. In this introspective workshop, participants will learn how to engage in critical self-work, identify systemic inequities, and explore ideas for applying cultural humility principles into personal and professional spheres of influence.

In Pursuit of Necessary Trouble:
Activism in the Academy

With ever-increasing educational intimidation bills and gag orders plaguing the college and K-12 landscape, fostering a culture of activism within the academy is not only essential but transformative. Join Amanda for a timely workshop that explores liberatory activism and reimagines the activist as a partner rather than an adversary in the academic environment.

Allyship Amplified: Moving from Bystander to Upstander

In today's rapidly changing social landscape, being an ally is a good first step, but it often falls short of the meaningful advocacy we need for creating positive change, disrupting harm, and addressing systemic inequities. Join this conversation to explore practical strategies for transitioning your allyship into action, enabling us to have a greater impact within our circles of influence.

When Words Don’t Belong
to Everyone:
The Trauma of Racial Slurs

While the n-word is often considered one of the most divisive and offensive words in the English language, it remains one of the racial slurs most frequently tossed around on school grounds and even in classrooms, sometimes uttered by teachers as a matter of context. This complex, nuanced, yet simple conversation will explain the trauma of words that don't belong to everyone and provide tools for educators to disrupt racial slurs and all derogatory language.

Beyond the Binary: Exploring the Spectrum of Gender

In a world where language, roles, and behaviors are frequently constrained by rigid gender norms, the need to unravel and embrace more expansive expressions of identity becomes imperative. Join Amanda & Laura as they navigate the intricacies of gender by unveiling shared language, maneuvering common barriers, and exploring inclusive practices. Together, we will deepen our collective understanding of the gender binary in order to transcend it in a way that affirms the full spectrum of the human experience. We’ll also explore the structural evolution necessary to align organizational policy and practice with values of gender equity and liberation.

Cultivating Resilient Communities: Embracing Generative Conflict and Prioritizing Healing

In this workshop, facilitators will delve into the complexities of navigating conflict, the practice of building resilience when holding tension, and the need for deeper healing and communal care, especially amidst an increasingly polarized sociopolitical landscape. With a keen acknowledgement for the role that power dynamics play across social identities and interpersonal relationships, as well as an awareness of a Midwest Nice culture that often poses a barrier for moving through conflict, we will explore healing-centered strategies and somatic approaches to confront the fatigue, pain, and grief resulting from these challenging times.
